What we learnt in class relates to this task, advertising is defines as how companies try and get you to buy something that you haven't even heard of or seen before.
There are many ads that I really enjoy watching, and there are also some that make me want to tear my hair out! This brings me to my next point; every ad is pointed at a target market.
There are obviously a lot of ads on tv that aren't pointed at my age group ect so there is no reason for me to like them? So of course there is going to be some ads that I really hate. For example:
+ Every Harvey Norman Advertisement there has ever been.
+ Any cleaning products e.g. Easy Off Bam and Napi San.
+ Stupid cheap Warehouse of Kmart ads that have no humour.

The reason why I really dislike these ads because they feel like a waste of time to watch if they are irrelevant to you, and it feels like the company advertising the product hasn't made an effort to make the ad
enjoyable for all of the general population that is viewing it. If I were in an advertising company, I would try and appeal to the general public because they are viewing it, and chose to influence others to buy the product.

Some advertisements that I really like watching are those on alternative channels, and if they aren't on just the sky channels, they have to be hilarious. At my age, i feel that ads are a waste of time, so if we are forced to watch them, they have to atleast be funny. My favourite ads are ones that actually have a meaning, they dont always have to be funny, but they have to be clever and at least have an attempt to make it look like they have a serious meaning to them, and not going with obvious advertisement hooks and techniques. The niche market that I am in there is rebellion and angst, my friends and I know all about the advertising techniques companies feed us, we can appreciate they are trying but we aren't stupid.

Here is an example of an advert that its suitable to my demographic:

It covers all the bases and has a lot of humour in it. The randomness is captivating and really gets the audiences attention.
That is my basic opin

My media survey had some interesting results. After looking at the ten people's answers that I surveyed, it turned out that the older generation reads more newspapers than people under the age of approximately. I feel that this is because younger kids are quite self centered and aren't very worried about other people's problems unless it affects them. Also, with all the long articles and talk about politics, I think that that would turn a lot of younger people off the newspaper.  I predict that the older generation read the newspaper more also because of the interest and time. They have the maturity to care about other stories and also for some of the plus 50 year olds, TV wasn't around when they were young so they have learnt to read instead of just watching the TV for news coverage ect.
Not many people I surveyed bought newspapers just for the free coupons ect. I feel this is because there isn't much chance of winning, and not many people want to waste that extra 2 dollars on a lost chance. I feel the same about this.
Even though most people I surveyed didn't actually read much of the newspaper, many said that they would miss it. Most like watching their parents on Sunday mornings just sitting and reading the newspaper.

My feelings towards newspapers are that they should stay around. They are such an easy and cheap way to get proper in depth news bulletins without having to read it in all one go. Unlike the TV you can just read a little bit of it, and then come back to it at a later date. When I read the newspaper, the articles are actually very good and worth a read so I feel that more people should read the newspapers, and that they wont die out for a little while yet. But eventually

+Otago Daily Times - http://www.odt.co.nz/

All Five of these online news papers have coverage of the Christchurch Earthquake. The site ive chosen to find an article on is The Press because it is from the hometown of the earthquake.

Link to article:http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/4745935/Lovebirds-live-happily-ever-afterI think that this article is very pointless, the pun that they used was clever, but there was no point in the article. Not many people want to hear about two birds getting rescued. People worry about other people, and whats going to affect them later on. I guess for some, this article is heart warming and makes them feel better. But for me, I want to know more stories on people getting rescued out of the rubble, or family's struggle so I can at least relate.

I have found out a number of things after searching about the tv. They are:

Overall, I think that there wasn't much to learn about television. After researching for a considerable amount of time about broadcasting companies I have come to the conclusion that TV is designed to inform and entertain and that nowadays there are a lot more advertisments.
In my opinion, I wish I could go back to the black and white days of simple television that was purely for entertainment and for the pleasure of viewers. TV is now something taken for granted and something that is used just to fill in time. Back when it was first invented, it was a privilege to use and had content that was worthwhile with a lot of effort put in, rather than
