First assignment, Task One
My idea for my infomercial is very simple, but is almost guaranteed to work for the target audience that is in the task. I have decided to advertise a limited edition Federation phone that is marketed to teenagers. The infomercial isn’t just like any other one, it is more similar to a short film because teenagers will relate and respond to it better. The advertisement will show young adults dressed up in federation clothing skateboarding and designing the phone. This will become a montage and have fast paced cuts between each clip and photo. Most teens these days aspire to be ‘indie’ which is when you are alternative and have more individual style than everyone else. This ad will exemplify everything that it means to be an indie and will illustrate teenage culture. Some things that could go wrong when doing this ad, is that there may not be enough content to fill in the whole two minutes and it could get boring. It is a huge gamble not doing the normal infomercial techniques but if the ad is done professionally then it could be a huge success. An advantage of this idea is that Federation is one of the brands that is very popular at the moment and in demand. Teenagers want to know the next product that is being produced so a phone will be the next gadget that they will want.
Some things that I have found easy about this ad so far is the idea came to me very easily. I asked around my friends about what they thought of the idea and they liked it a lot. Most of them had at least one item of Federation clothing and were keen to expand their collection of them. Some interesting things that I found out was that there is a lot of things I need to research about before going through with the infomercial, like getting permission from Federation to use their brand. Something also interesting was that it wasn’t hard coming up with ideas for the phone and product, but when it came to advertising it in a successful way, it began to become trickier. There is a limited pallet that can be used and the brand restrictions make it very hard. I can’t just make up my own logo and do it my way, I have to stick to what the brand ‘Federation’ is like. Sometimes the restrictions are hard, but sometimes they make it easier to think of ideas and to feed off things that they have already thought of.
So far, there is nothing incredibly annoying by this time about the assignment. Only that my internet has been playing up so I have to write the whole blog out on a word document and then paste it onto my blog! But otherwise it has been ok. I’m happy with my group at the moment and Rob especially seems enthusiastic on the idea that I have come up with.
